Dental Crowns For Cracked Teeth In Diggers Rest

People Asked:

In many cases, yes. A dental crown caps a damaged tooth to restore its shape and function and to protect it from further cracking, helping you keep your natural tooth.

When a back tooth cracks or breaks, it can be hard to chew on that side with confidence. At Diggers Rest Dental House, Dr Alex restores teeth like these for patients across Diggers Rest and the wider Macedon Ranges, designing each crown to sit comfortably with the surrounding teeth and the way they bite together.

Why a cracked or broken tooth may need a crown

A filling repairs smaller areas of damage, but a tooth that is cracked or broken often needs more support. A crown fits over the whole tooth like a cap, holding it together and shielding it from the forces of everyday chewing.

How a dental crown is fitted

The process is methodical, and Dr Alex explains each stage as it happens.

Numbing the area

Local anaesthetic is used to numb the tooth and surrounding gum so the appointment is comfortable.

Shaping the tooth

The tooth is then shaped to create enough room for the ceramic. This stage usually takes around twenty to thirty minutes.

Designing and milling the crown

A digital design is created so the crown matches your existing teeth and bite, then it is milled from a single ceramic block.

Bonding the crown in place

At a follow-up visit, the finished crown is fixed into place over the prepared tooth.

Caring for your crown afterwards

A crowned tooth can still develop decay near the gum line, so a routine examination and hygiene visit every six months helps it last.
